New go to!

The Franconia is my new favorite top layer! Comfortable, warm, breathable, and I love that it’s a little longer at the bottom. The built in face mask and thumb holes on the sleeves are awesome features as well!

Terrific Insulation Layer

Went looking for the right winter hiking insulation layer after getting some guidance from a guide. Love Burgeon gear and this one has performed beyond my expectations.

Best Mid Layer Ever!

Just used this for a 3 day winter hike in Shenandoah National Park. Kept me warm while moving in sub 10 degree weather with a tee shirt and light long sleeve as base layers. The hood is very well fitted and the built in neck warmer is the great! The tight fit allows for outer layers to fit over very comfortably. The long tail was great for staying down with the built in elastic type bottom, especially sense my pack always seems to ride up with whatever top I used to wear. The thumb holes were great to keep my hands warm without gloves once it was a little warmer. The chest pockets were absolutely key, to keep your snacks from freezing. Can’t wait to bring this baby up to The Whites while I continue with my winter 48. The customer service is amazing. Great gear and company! 10/10

Most versatile piece in my kit

I have been climbing and guiding throughout North America since 2005. This is hands down my favorite insulation layer I have ever had. From cold desert pitches, to steep ice climbs, and long PNW volcanos, this layer is with me. The dual front zip pockets are key for me and my phone and guide notebook. Power-stretch is an amazingly soft and comfortable material, so much so that this is often what I seep in while camping, especially at altitude.

Warm and comfortable

I like the build quality of the franconia. It is a bit more snug than I prefer. I'm 6' 5" and weigh 188 pounds. I got the Large Tall and it is very form fitting. It will make a great winter layer.

Love the quality, love the fit. I can't wait to try it out this fall and winter

Now a Permanent Piece of the Gear List

My wife bought me this for a winter layer, for skiing and snowshoeing, and it’s perfect! Just thick enough as a layer to wear above a base layer, and thin enough to wear under a shell without overheating. I was impressed at how warm this was just wearing this over the base layer while gearing up for an alpine tour, at 10°F, but it was very breathable for both the uphill and the downhill under the shell. The hood and built-in face cover are nicely designed. And it’s very comfortable! Well done Burgeon!

Incredible!

This is my favorite mid layer, it is soft, warm and very stretchy. The hood fits very well and fits under a ski helmet and the face mask built into the hood is great.

It's ok

A little disappointed for $179. I have a bunch of Burgeon articles of clothing and mostly happy, but the value of the Franconia is not quite there. The fit isn't great and I was surprised there were no side pockets. The quality is excellent and I suspect it can be a great layer, but again for $179 I expected much more.

Love, love, love!

Took this out for a spin at my son's soccer game. Everyone else was shivering and wishing they had packed an extra layer and I was perfectly comfortable. The soft interior paired with the stretchy fabric made it perfect to put on over my work wear to watch the game. Looking forward to wearing this all fall and layering it with my winter clothes.

Unfriginbelievable!

These guys are absolutely fantastic!
First of all their products are expensive and amazing. I love my Franconia. I had a small issue with a thread that seemed to be loose. I sent a picture of it with a note asking what I should do, as I live over 100 miles away.
They asked for my mailing address. The next day I had a new replacement.
You bet I will be buying from them again!

New Favorite Hiking Gear!

This jacket exceeded my expectations...the fabric is soft and extremely comfortable. The hood with the hidden balaclava is a great idea and so handy on cold days. This will be in my pack on every hike. This is my second piece from Burgeon and it won't be my last. I love buying local especially when they produce quality products.

Great!

This mid layer is warm and comfortable. I love the large chest pockets that you can easily stash a phone or a snack for easy access and close to body heat. I do wish it had a low pocket for use when not wearing another layer over it. The full zip hood that covers the neck is spectacular. Thank you!

Best gift ever

My fiance loves Burgeon, so I ordered the Franconia for him. The fit is true to size, the quality is amazing, and the shipping was fast. Thank you!

Best tool in my kit for all seasons.

I am a full time guide, owner of Mooney Mountain Guides LLC and , full disclosure, I’m also a Burgeon Ambassador. With that said, I’ve always given the Burgeon team my honest feedback on their products. With that out of the way, let me tell you about this piece, the Franconia. First, I have used it extensively. A rough estimate is over 250 days of very heavy use from skiing in the Sierra, rock climbing in the desert, along with countless days ice climbing and guiding ascents of Mt. Washington. The hoodie is still in great shape, good enough for me to meet my guests and make a clean first impression. So, durability...check.
Second, the material that Burgeon chose to use is one of my very favorites, it is the perfect blend of warmth and performance. The stretch makes me forget I am even wearing it, it does not hold on to moisture from perspiration at all, and on most days the Franconia is all I need for insulation under my shell, or over my T-shirt. So, performance...check.
Third, functionality. Honestly if the product fits well and and works as advertised I’m going to use the product; however, what keeps me reaching for the Franconia time after time, day after day, season after season, in every climate of the continental USA? It’s 3 main things. 1: there are two pockets on the front for my phone no any other nik-nacks I may have. It seems silly, but I miss those pockets when my Franconia is in the wash. I almost can’t live without them. I mean, all you have to do is eat one frozen candy bar to know the value of these pockets. 2: The hood fits over and under my helmet. Ether way I’m covered! 3: It’s long. I tuck it into my pants and my back stays warm all day.

Honestly, I can’t say enough good things about the Franconia Mid-Layer. Once this thing catches on, it’s going to be hard to keep up with demand. Get yours now.

Warm, Comfortable, and Functional Without the Bulk

This mid-layer is a beast. Not only is it perfectly designed, it keeps the warmth in and lets the sweat breathe through. It is hard to find a mid-weight layer that is warm and not bulky. Usually, I find myself feeling like the Michelin-man with my base, bulky fleece layers, and puffy jacket. This makes it difficult to maneuver steep inclines of slippery ice and rock. That is just one of the reasons I love the Franconia so much. It is incredibly warm for its weight and doesn’t feel bulky under (and over) other layers.

Another reason I love the Franconia is because of the perfectly placed chest pockets. Regularly placed hip pockets are super inconvenient under other jackets, and I feel like these pockets were built with the hiker in mind. It is super easy to unzip a jacket and slip your hand in the pocket that sits right there for your phone, a snack, whatever you want… which brings me to my next point. The pockets are actually big enough to fit stuff!

Arguably my favorite feature on the Franconia is the built-in balaclava in the hood. If you’re really cold and need both the hood and balaclava, you have that option. If you’re breathing heavy and want to pull down the part that covers your mouth, you have that option. If you just want the hood and no balaclava, you have that option (and it sits flat against the hood behind your head so you don’t even notice it is there!). And lastly, if you want nothing, you can take it all off too!

The Franconia has proven to be one of the most versatile and well-designed hiking layers I have ever owned. On top of that, it has outstanding comfort with its soft material, long torso fit so it doesn’t move around, and amazing fit! You won’t be disappointed in this layer!

Franconia and Hoodie ROCK!

You know the outfits they wear on The Enterprise? Those futuristic, versatile costumes the OG Starfleet characters wore in the 60's tv show? I've been waiting for those materials to arrive and they are here NOW in the form of the comfortable, breathable, weatherproof textiles offered by Burgeon. Live long and prosper (outdoors and indoors) with these universally comfortable garments! Now when can I start being teleported in them....

warmest ever!

Have heard about your shop from TV several times so decided to stopped in. I bought a Franconia Mid-layer. After wearing it several times and finding it warm I decided to give it a real workout. We had a morning where I had to remove snow from our driveway and the temp was minus 11. For once I was real warm outside. Fact is it work so well I have since bought another. Recommended.

Support Local Business

It is great to see a local company making functional outdoors gear, and doing it with high quality standards.

This jacket is the ultimate insulating layer for winter hiking paired with a good lightweight packable wind layer and down jacket.

This was a perfect addition to my layering system!

I would love to see you guys make a pair of baselayer pants out of this fabric for my days skiing at the resort!

My go to hiking jacket

Super comfortable and soft I wear this hiking on colder days as a layer underneath my shell. I have also shed my shell and used this as an outer layer. Very breathable and warm and the balaclava and hood work perfectly to take the chill away. Also looks good to wear when I go for a beer at the Dam Brewhouse. What's not to love. Another great Burgeon product.
