Sustainability

Sustainability:

Our Highlander Hoodie is knitted in North Carolina and handsewn in New Hampshire.  US domestic production ensures compliance with high environmental standards, a cleaner electrical grid, more efficient transportation infrastructure, as well as reducing the overall distance (and carbon footprint required) to move through a global supply chain.  In addition, due to volume increases, we were recently able to get Cyberknit to switch the base material to recycled polyester.  Hoodies in recycled polyester are Green, Navy, Black, Plum, and Maple Cream.

Made Locally

Made in New Hampshire: Our Highlander Hoodie is handsewn by our Burgeon production team in both Lincoln and Gorham, New Hampshire.

Worker Standards: Burgeon follows all federal, state, and local laws and regulations that protect our employees.  Burgeon production team members also enjoy flexible working hours, paid time off (vacation, sick, safe), and all ten federal holidays.  Burgeon covers 100% of healthcare premiums for all employees who average 30+ hours per week.  All Burgeon production team members are eligible for a monthly bonus based on our sales.  5% of the sales of the Highlander Hoodie go directly into this bonus pool.

Very nice

It’s a very nice and warm garment. One section of stitching on one sleeve has already come apart though. I’m sure it happens with any company though. It didn’t happen until it was washed a couple of times

Used on AT thru hike

This was a staple on my recently completed southbound AT thru hike. I had used an ultra light alpha direct fleece for a short time period but found that piece gave little to no warmth unless paired with a shell, which was inconvenient and negated the utility of the supposedly superior warmth/weight ratio of alpha direct. The Highlander hoodie is lighter than most of the top fleeces on the market and provides warmth as a stand-alone piece but is not so warm that you cannot wear it while working hard in the right temps. It is certainly not meant to block wind, but does provide slight protection compared to the airy alpha direct. This can come in handy when you are working hard on an uphill and reach windy elevation and want to cool off a bit without losing all body heat. In sum, for my purposes, this hoodie outperforms both traditional heavy, hot fleeces and the newer alpha direct fleeces.

Feel and fit is great… with some drawbacks

The feel and fit of the hoodie is great.
Comfortable, warm but not heavy or bulky.
My one issue with the fabric is it holds sweat and odors. I wore it on a rail trail bike ride on a cool day and sweat a little bit on the ride. I’m not a “stinky” sweater at all and the fabric seemed to hold onto some odor after I washed it. I re-washed it again and the odor seems to have come out, but I’m worried about wearing it on hikes. Hopefully it will hold up to a few good washings and not retain any odors. But, unfortunately it seems to be a one wear a wash immediately after fabric.

Black is not actually black

I ordered this hoodie in black but it's really just dark gray. It's very warm and comfortable it's just not the right color.

Comfy and warm

Love it! It's just what I was looking for and I looked for a while. Very lightweight. Packs small when I don't need it. Couldn't be happier with the purchase!

A++

I really love this hoodie. Have it in the orange rust, and navy. I tend to run pretty hot when active and I found this hoodie fit the gap where it was too warm or too cold, when I would normally end up adding or removing layers. Love how it does very well to not restrict movement either. Have and would buy again (Burgeon does a very good job at releasing attracting colors , hence why I end up with a few colorways of each item I own )

Love Love Love

Absolutely love it, it’s my new go to for everywhere. So soft, warm and comfortable. Got my eye on the other colors now. I’m 6’1 210lbs and the extra large fit perfectly.

Just buy it - it’s perfect.

This hoodie is as comfy as a hug and as versatile as…I can’t think of something versatile, but it’s very versatile. I wore it for three straight days that consisted of hanging out at home, walking around town, and ski touring. After three days, it didn’t smell at all, although I did wash it just to be on the safe side.

Also, the fit is perfect. I got a mens large and for reference, I’m 5’10” 175 ish.

Essential Alpine Layer

The Highlander Hoodie has become an integral part of the alpine kit. I’ve worn it on Katahdin’s Knife Edge, Presidential Traverse, Franconia Ridge, etc. It’s warm yet very breathable, dries fast, absorbs sweat. The details are very well thought out; hand warmer pocket, snap button to ensure the hood stays down on windy days, draw string. It’s like putting on a fleece blanket. The seams are quality and I expect it to last many seasons. PolarTech fleece is amazingly soft. I couldn’t be happier with it his purchase. Kudos to the fine folks in Lincoln, NH.

Soft and warm!

I've worn this several times now..perfect the cool New England mornings and evenings. The material is very soft and comfortable, yet still provides good warmth. I'm 5'9" 160lbs and opted for the large, which is a little baggy for me but that is the fit I preferred knowing I may be putting a layer or two under this when being active outdoors. I can always shed a layer and this will pack away nicely if needed.

One word “Awesome”

I am very pleased with the hoodie. The quality of the product is top notch. It’s very warm and comfortable and is now an integral part of my layering system for winter and cooler weather hiking. I really like the fact that it is made right here in the USA!!

You don't know until you do.

I have always been a flannel guy. Plaid, solid, even a houndstooth pattern from time to time. I loved Hoodies but always got good hotor found them too bulky. Never again. I've been living in this Hoodie all winter and it is what I change into after work everyday.

Thru hiker approved.

Had this hoodie on my recent thru hike of the AT. Made the whole journey from GA to ME. Absolutely loved it. Super soft. Super warm. Super amazing.

My new favorite piece of clothing.

This is literally the most comfortable thing I’ve ever owned. I have to stop myself from wearing it every day. It’s abnormally warm, I went on a hike in 10 degree weather the other day in just this hoodie. I have nothing bad to say about this hoodie or the experience I had in their store in Lincoln! Keep up the great work ❤️

Great Grid Fleece, Sharp Colors

I’ve been trying different US made grid fleeces recently and this one from Burgeon is a solid choice and I’m happy with my purchase. I recently wore it hiking in RMNP as the first test outside of my couch. I had a wool base layer and this hoodie - was about 50-55 degrees at 9k-10k feet and I was perfect the whole 3.8 mile hike. No visible wear on the shoulders after carrying a heavy pack for 4 hours (carrying essentials for myself and the kids). The fleece is soft and comfy, love the navy color. I enjoy the snap at the neck for a looser fit when I’m not wearing the hood. The drawstrings could be a higher quality material, but they’re lightweight and work just fine. I’m 5’11 and 210, the large fits nicely but fleece is a regular cut (not relaxed) and the fleece isn’t super stretchy. But with a single layer mine fit great - keep that in mind if you prefer a more relaxed fit or want multiple layers underneath. This fleece will definitely be a regular in my hiking, camping, and snowboarding rotation.

Comfortable performance

This hoodie is my new favorite. It is super comfortable and performes great when out and about. It kept me warm and helped me shed mosture when clearing ice for skating. I can't wait for more adventures wearing this hoodie.

Highlander hoodie

Tried 2 other styles of Burgeon hoodies, could not find the correct fit until the Highlander. The waffle design is lightweight yet warm. The alpine lake color pops. Took a XL, which has a looser, but not baggy, fit. For reference I am 6 foot, 220 pounds.
Also a shout out to Nick in their customer service area, who patiently explained the benefits of each hoodie type. His attentive brand of service is sorely lacking in most companies I deal with. Very refreshing to see good service is still a priority with some companies.
