Thanks to its high breathability, this hoodie excels at temperature regulation during movement but should be paired with a shell, like the Tuckerman, for warmth in non-moving conditions or protection against rain and wind. The Alpha™ 120 Hoodie is built to perform as part of your layering system, ensuring comfort across a wide range of conditions.

Alpha™ Direct 120 is a heavier version of Polartec®'s Alpha™ Direct insulation (Polartec® has four weights, 60, 90, 120, 190).

The Burgeon Alpha™ Direct 120 Hoodie is made from first quality deadstock material. This deadstock is from orders that were either cancelled, dyed incorrectly, or factory overruns. Deadstock material is the most sustainable type of material you can use - as it is already made.

Our Alpha™ Direct 120 Hoodie is knitted in New Hampshire (then finished in TN) and handsewn in New Hampshire.  US domestic production ensures compliance with high environmental standards, a cleaner electrical grid, more efficient transportation infrastructure, as well as reducing the overall distance (and carbon footprint required) to move through a global supply chain.

Worker Standards: The Alpha™ Direct 120 Hoodie is handstitched by the Burgeon production team in Lincoln, New Hampshire.  Burgeon follows all federal, state, and local laws and regulations that protect our employees.  Burgeon production team members also enjoy flexible working hours, paid time off (vacation, sick, safe), and all ten federal holidays. 

Burgeon covers 100% of healthcare premiums for all employees who average 30+ hours per week.  All Burgeon production team members are eligible for a monthly bonus based on our sales.  5% of the sales of the Alpha™ Direct 120 Hoodie go directly into this bonus pool.
5% for our Community and Environment

5% of the purchase price of this product will benefit our community and environmental efforts.  These efforts include trail maintenance, working with local non-profits and organizations, as well as our carbon mitigation efforts.

We maintain three (Old Bridle Path, Pine Link, Willey Range) trails in the White Mountains in partnership with the Appalachian Mountain Club. In the past year, we have also donated time, resources, and money to organizations such as New England Disabled Sports, Pemi Search and Rescue, Lakes Region Search and Rescue, the Linwood Rotary, Linwood Ambulance, as well as local community centers in Lincoln, Franconia, and Lisbon, NH.

Shipping on orders $75+ is free for continental US addresses. For orders less than $75 or to non-continental US locations, we charge $5.00 for shipping.

Cozy and Lightweight

If you're searching for a hoodie that delivers snuggly warmth without the bulk, the Burgeon Outdoor Alpha Direct 120 Hoodie is a solid choice. Designed with Polartec Alpha Direct 120 insulation, this hoodie offers soft, fuzzy comfort while remaining lightweight and highly breathable.

Sizing
I usually wear a medium men's shirt and ordered a medium Alpha Direct Hoodie. My measurements fit the medium measurements on the sizing chart. The medium hoodie felt too restrictive and the hoodie was exchanged for a large. The large was a perfect fit and the exchange process was top notch!

Cozy and Lightweight
The Alpha Direct 120 fabric feels plush and inviting, almost like wrapping yourself in a high-tech fleece blanket. It’s incredibly lightweight and airy, providing impressive warmth without weighing you down. Whether layered under a shell or worn on its own in mild conditions, it delivers that instant cozy feeling you want in a mid-layer.

Great for Breathability, Not for Wind Protection
One of the biggest strengths of this hoodie is its moisture management and breathability. The open-knit structure allows heat and sweat to escape quickly, making it an excellent choice for high-output activities like hiking or ski touring. However, this same design means it struggles in windy conditions—without a shell, you’ll feel the chill. If you’re in exposed areas, you’ll want an additional layer to block the wind.

Simple, No-Frills Design
The hood provides extra warmth, but keep in mind that there are no thumb loops or additional wind-blocking features. The fit is flexible, making it comfortable for movement without feeling restrictive. Since the fabric dries quickly, it’s great for active pursuits where you might build up a sweat.

Amazingly warm!

If you are looking for a lightweight, breathable, SOFT, comfortable, mid-layer under your shell, the Alph is your answer! So comfortable, so warm, and unbelievably soft.

Point of note: there are no pockets or drawstrings on this model. Not a problem at all if used as a mid-layer, just wanted to point that out.

Wow! One of my new, favorite Burgeon apparel to backpack in!

This purchase exceeded my expectations! After trying a couple of other Alpha Direct items from other companies, I wasn't fully sold on Alpha Direct technology. Since all of my other purchases from Burgeon have met and exceede expectations, I decided to give this a shot. I did a small backpacking trip and walked my dogs multiple times in sub 25 degree weather and this performed beautifully with and without a wind jacket. I highly recommend the Burgeon Alpha Direct 120 Hoodie. Light, warm, and true to size.

Amazingly cozy and breathable Alpha direct jumper from this cool New Hampshire business, perfect for winter cold and love that its made locally here on the east coast. Construction and Stitching are excellent, true to size for men - my standard medium fits great (6’0/170 lbs). Seriously warm when layered with a shell and great for a range of outputs as well as more sedentary/relaxed wear.
