I am not one to write reviews often, but I want to give a shoutout to this company for their amazing turnaround time.
I mistakenly ordered a size too small and had a big backpacking trip coming up with uncertain temps so I wanted to try out the Alpha 90. I contacted the company when I realized it was too small to layer. They responded immediately and jumped to make sure I had the correct size before leaving for my trip.
The shirt was a lifesaver! Warm when I needed it but not too hot and withstood me climbing down a cliff.
The customer service I received was A+++

My first experience with the Aloha 90 was a 10 mile hike in the South San Wilderness in Colorado, half on trial and half off-trail near where the CDT comes North from Chama NM.

October weather in the SSJW swings from sunny and mid 50's to sleet/snow/driving rain and mid to low 40's. During one of these swings from sun/50's to driving rain and sleet I transitioned out of the Alpha-90 to just my marino wool thin layer and Chugach rain jacket. 35 minutes later the sun was back out. I had stashed the alpha in my pack, wet from the rain/sleet. I pulled it back out, gave it a few shakes and put it back on. Within 15 minutes of hiking it had totally dried out.

I also like the flexibility of the larger hood, it really cuts down on the wind and sleet smacking the check bones.

Loving this piece, so glad I bought one.

And the Alpha worked great as I rolled into the purple pig wood fired pizza joint in Alamosa that evening. Even some Melezana fans gave me compliments.

This is the first item I've ordered from Burgeon, and I couldn't be happier. It's also my first alpha, and I immediately tried it out on a 6 day backpacking trip in Oregon, so boy did I test it out! I used it as a sleeping layer inside my bag, an in-camp warm midlayer, and under rain gear in an unexpected snowstorm - it performed great for all these uses. I ordered up a size to XL when I usually wear an L in most brands, just to have a little more room - any why not when it's so light? I also really love how well it integrates with pieces I already own. It's a match made in heaven under my Patagonia Houdini jacket, I also wore it under a puffy and over an icebreaker merino tee when things got really chilly. Love that it's from NH and the White Mountains, where I learned to stay warm and dry in tough conditions!

I took my fleece on a 6-night backpack into the High Sierra above 10,000’, and it added the midlayer support I needed for early fall without adding bulk and weight to my pack. Fit perfect underneath a rain jacket or puffy, and packed down easily when not in use. Also used while sleeping at night when temps dropped below freezing.

Bought my first one right before a month+ long car camping trip in Minnesota in September -October. So, kind of warm at the start and into freezing temps at night by the end. I had plenty of other hoodies and long-sleeve layers, but this is the one I reached for consistently and when I wasn't sure what I would need. It's lightweight, cozy and looks good with everything. Even wore it with a skirt to dinner one night. Fun story - on this trip, I walked out of the bakery and saw a thru-hiker standing outside...wearing the green version. I recognized it immediately and we had a fun moment talking about how great it was. And one of the first things I did getting home was order the green version. Love these!

Wore this on a recent hike. Temp was about 50. The Alpha kept me warm enough but also kept me cool when i started sweating. Wore it over a short sleeve tech tee. Perfect layer for fall hiking.

Got this for my wife for upcoming hiking trip. She loves everything about it. Says its super lightweight and feels good on the skin.

Very lightweight and warm, does snag easily but repairable. True to size, order up if you like to layer under fleece.

This is warmer than I expected but also breathes. It’s so lightweight and I can put it in the front pocket of my pack when I shed layers and don’t have to baby it.

I love this hoodie, and it is always in my pack. I purchased it back in December and have worn it hiking and trekking in the backcountry through winter, spring, and now into fall.

I may not be who this hoodie is typically marketed toward. I’m an older woman who is now dealing with hot flashes while still wanting to be outside hiking in all kinds of weather and this may be the best invention ever. It breathes incredibly well when I’m hot, but still gives me the warmth I need when the temperature drops. I’ve worn it in rain and snow, and I’m continually impressed by how well it keeps me warm even when it gets wet.

I highly recommend the Alpha 90 Hoodie for outdoor adventurers of all ages. Mine has earned a permanent place in my pack.

I ordered the Alpha Direct 90, women’s medium in Night Sky. I usually fit a medium or a small but the medium was too snug. I called and the customer service representative sent me a large with a return label for the medium without me having to pay anything additional or fill out any forms. Outstanding service and I absolutely love this hoodie. It is soft, cozy and weightless. The color is really pretty too.

I got this mid-weight for summer nights sleeping in the huts of the White Mountains. It was the perfect weight for chilly nights and early mornings. I was comfortable without feeling any additional weight.

Just the best go to layer. Super light; super warm.
The perfect go to for moving hard in the mountains to thermoregulate.

I've been looking for an Alpha 90 hoodie for women and was really coming up short on what I was looking for, nice cut and nice colors. I'm pretty small too at 5'4" and 106-108 lbs so really couldn't go for the men's sizing in other brands. I took a chance on the Burgeon because the cut looked exactly like what I wanted and the colors were wonderful. I did listen to previous reviews saying to size up. I would conclude this is correct advise. I wear a small in Rab which runs a bit smaller than Patagonia where I typically wear an XS just to give an idea. I ordered a M and it was perfect. It fit over a Merino 160 or 250 baselayer and will go nicely under a puffy. However it does feel incredibly delicate and I won't be wearing it much except for the backpacking trips I have planned.

This is my favorite item n my wardrobe. I wear it almost daily! I was introduced to Alpha Direct 90 Hoodie when I stole my husband's on the Foothills Trail. I wore it 7 days straight and no smell! :-) Dries very well and keeps me warm. I suggest 90 versus 120 if you’re in weather not colder than 30 degrees. Perfect!

i am a size 10 w 39 chest and i got the L, and it fits like a base layer. i can't really wear it over anything other than a bra/tank. the sleeves especially are quite narrow/tight.

i LOVE the jewel tones! (mine is red) and it's super soft and comfy, great wicking from wearing it and a vest for a steep hike on a breezy 40F day.

The material is perfect, size is perfect, I wish the hood had a more scooba hood design. however it’s nice to have it be ultralight weight , so im conflicted. looking forward to testing it in cold and humid climates.

I just got my hoodie delivered usually I wear a size small but the hoodie size small I ordered it. It’s so small. Looks like for 12 years old. Make sure by size up because it does not match size original usual normal size it’s small way small than it’s small.:(

Warm comfortable and light weight!

I love my Alpha 90 hoodie. I was able to take it out over the weekend and test it in mild to cooler temps on an overnight backpacking trip. It is so light, soft and comfortable that I even slept in it. Highly recommend and I may even have to splurge on another one in a brighter color. I did look a bit like I was wearing a black bear suit but it is AWESOME!
